BBFC advice: Contains mild action, rude humour
It was our annual dad and daughter day and so Miss W and I combined a meal, a real ale pub crawl and The Secret Life Of Pets.
I was pretty confident this would be a winner with Miss W because, despite being 23 years old, she has a Finding Nemo sense of humour. And the trailers look great, don't they?
But, I have to say that I did not laugh nearly as much as I expected and neither did the young children in the audience at the new Loughborough Cineworld.
It's not that The Secret Life Of Pets is bad. Its premise is fun and it has great energy and some ingenious moments - but it wasn't hilarious.
To be fair, Miss W giggled more than me and that could be down to the fact that she is more of an animal-lover.
The latter would help. Despite our family having had a cat for the best part of 15 years, I just cannot be romantic about animals.
Therefore, I am sure that those who are will get a lot more from Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney's movie which surrounds what happens when pets are left at home when their owners go to work.
Their idea is that the dogs, cats, budgies, goldfish etc suddenly move into party mode.
The main focus is on Max (voiced by Louis C.K.), a terrier whose life is turned upside down when his beloved owner (Ellie Kemper) brings in a stray (Eric Stonestreet).
This sparks instant jealousy and Max cooks up a plan to jettison his new housemate, Inevitably, chaos ensues and all of the local pets become embroiled.
Much of The Secret Life Of Pets is made up of fast-paced chase scenes orchestrated by the funniest character in the picture - a rabbit named Snowball (Kevin Hart),
But the problem is that these have already been seen to better effect in Zootroplis a few months ago as have most of the concepts in The Secret Life Of Pets.
Reasons to watch: if you are an animal-lover it will help
Reasons to avoid: is not as funny as I expected
Laughs: two for me - more for Miss W
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: none
