260. Dyke Hard; movie review

DYKE HARD
Cert TBA
90 mins
BBFC advice: TBA

The tag before The Dyke Hard title, proclaims it as "just another Swedish action comedy musical B-movie."
This is a wonderful understatement - Bitte Anderson's film is the barmiest contribution to cinema for some time and actually might deserve the 'so bad it's good' accolade.
On the plus side, Dyke Hard really does try to break down social barriers - LGBT, the disabled and the plain weird are positively celebrated here.
The premise is that a band which had a one-hit wonder are down on their luck and are deserted by their 'charismatic' leader (Lina Kurttila).
This leaves the remaining group members (Peggy Sands, Maria Wågensjö, Alle Eriksson and Iki Gonzalez Magnusson) to resurrect their career at a battle of the bands contest.
However, a mysterious billionaire (Josephine Wilson) puts cyborgs, ghosts, a Thai boxer, roller-derby girls, ninjas and motorcycle gangs in their way.
It seemed to me that the makers of Dyke Hard were attempting to produce a Rocky Horror Show for the 21st century but, incredibly, created a movie which was even more crazy.
It fails because its ambition far outweighs either its budget (it was crowdfunded) or the quality of its actors (barely a line is spoken with conviction).
However, it is impossible to turn one's head away from Dyke Hard even if to marvel at how utterly off the wall it is.

Reasons to avoid: because it makes no sense whatsoever
Reasons to watch: because it is so outrageously off the wall
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: yes
Nudity: yes
Overall rating: 3/10
